A total of 27 candidates have been further short-listed for the next selection phase of the Program Angkasawan Negara. They consist of 25 male and 2 female candidates. The selection proses will begin on the 16 January 2006 and is expected to end on the 26 January 2006. This selection process will be divided into 3 phases.
The first phase will involve further medical evaluation which consists of stress test, ultrasound of the abdomen and lung function test. The candidates will also undergo aerophysiological test which includes exposure to high altitude in an altitude chamber and ‘G’ tolerance training in the newly commissioned Human Centrifuge. These evaluations will be conducted at the Specialist Clinic 95 Armed Forces Hospital in Jalan Padang Tembak as well as the Institute of Aviation Medicine in RMAF Kuala Lumpur and Subang Air Bases.
The candidates will then proceed to the RMN Naval Base in Lumut for exposure to land and sea-survival conditions as well as to assess the mental and physical endurance of the candidates. This phase of the selection process will be conducted by various training units in the Royal Malaysian Navy.
The candidates who are successful in this phase will then undergo final medical examination which will include CT Scan and Endoscopic procedures. This part of the examination will be conducted by the Specialist panel of 96 Armed Forces Hospital Lumut. The candidates will also be assessed in terms of their psychological factors throughout the program.
